A tool fell in the lava. Is it gone for good?

Update 1.0.6 turned the lava from a delete button into a detour. Guides written before 26 August still say otherwise.

Quick answer

On builds from 26 August 2026 onward, the lava respawns tools lost in it. Update 1.0.6 also added recall for some unique tools when they are lost or stuck. If a tool went into the lava on an older build, that was a different game — update first, then look for it.

Steps

  1. Close the game and let Steam apply the 26 August 2026 update before you conclude anything is lost.
  2. Reload the save and look for the tool where it normally spawns rather than where it fell.
  3. For a unique tool that is stuck rather than sunk, look for the recall option Update 1.0.6 added.
  4. If a key item is embedded in geometry, Update 1.0.5 already covers that case: it respawns, and ores go straight to the bank.
  5. Only then use Clear Items in the pause menu, which removes items and returns no money.

Requirements / limits

  • The developer wrote that the lava “should now respawn tools lost in it”. That is a commitment about tools, not about products or toys.
  • Recall is offered for “some unique tools”. The changelog does not list which, so a specific tool is not guaranteed.
  • None of this is retroactive for a save that already lost something on an older build; the changelogs describe behaviour going forward.

Common mistakes

  • Rebuying a tool before updating, on the strength of a guide written during launch week.
  • Using Clear Items as a first move. It gives no money back and does not distinguish the item you wanted from the ones you did not.
  • Assuming lava recovery also applies to ducks, piñatas, registers or anomalies. The changelog says tools.

Still unverified

  • Which unique tools can be recalled? Not verifiedUpdate 1.0.6 says “some unique tools” and names none.
  • Do products lost in the lava come back too?Not verifiedThe changelog line covers tools. No source states what happens to products.
